What: Tours of Sarasota County landfill, hazardous waste and recycling plants
When: 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
Where: Chemical Collection Center, 8750 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota
Description: The tours are limited to 18 people, age 14 and older. Visitors must register in advance and will receive a confirmation letter with a tour itinerary. Visitors remain aboard an air-conditioned bus for the landfill tour, but may walk through the recycling plant and the hazardous chemical collection center. Protective lenses will be provided. Closed shoes are required for each tour. Guests should be prepared for loud noises and an industrial environment. Sarasota County solid waste staff will provide transportation to the recycling and landfill facilities, along with beverages and snacks.
