Geraldson's Community Farm - Get Yours Down the Street!

Hey, the challenge by Manatee County is being made folks! Manatee County purchased 22 acres to develop a community farm. The Florida West Coast RC&D is putting together the conceptual plan to present to the Board of County Commissioners this September.

I think Sarasota County needs one, too!!!! Smile

When Jeannell Innerarity was doing her research on her thesis on the community gardens of Sarasota, she asked me what my vision for community gardens or local agriculture was and I said this: everyone within walking distance of a community farm or community garden.

Natural Capitalism - What's going on in your world?

Hey out there -- what has been going on lately in the efforts toward Natural Capitalism in Sarasota? The recent Economic Development Corp. annual celebration was a time to reflect on our success and think about what is coming up in 2006-2007 toward a "solutions economy" in Sarasota.

We have a unique opportunity to show the world how to do it. What have you seen lately that shows off our commitment to Natural Capitalism????

Florida Green Building Partnership Announced

FHBA & FGBC Team Up To Promote Affordable Green Building

TALLAHASSEE— (April 7, 2006) The Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) and the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) today announced a newly created partnership designed to promote affordable green building.

“The mission of the partnership is to provide a statewide green building program that creates both environmental and economic benefits,” says Roy O. Bonnell, Jr., FGBC Executive Director. “We have accomplished this by creating a broad-based coalition of members including all sectors of the building industry, and individuals interested in the environment, academics, and government.”

NatCap Suggestions from Participants

We spent time on February 22, 2006 during the Natural Capitalism Seminar developing ideas on the following two topics:

  • 1) Ideas for implementing natural capitalism in communities
  • 2) Ideas for implementing natural capitalism in businesses

Waste/reuse/recycling Ideas

  • Incentives for locally-harvested wood to be provided for local markets (current method for fire prevention = trees removed and burned)

Contributors/E-Heros

Hey all you Natural Capitalists!

The collection of stories that had been submitted by the Natural Capitalism Seminar for the "history of sustainability" or E-heros document will have an on-line version here that can be updated AS-NEEDED.

Keep those stories coming - add, change, edit and make this space yours!

I am also thinking of posting blank pages for those that have been nominated (20+ more people are on the "to-do" list, so if you know of someone who should be here, write their story!)

:-)
